The Alevis in Modern Turkey and the Diaspora explores Alevis and their struggles for recognition, as well as their negotiations and claims to rights, both in Turkey and in the diaspora. This event brings together the editors, and a number of contributors, of the volume to discuss not only this book but also the field of Alevi/diaspora/minority studies. Derya Özkul is a senior research fellow at the Refugee Studies Centre, University of Oxford. Hege Markussen is a researcher in History of Religions at Lund University. Besim Can Zırh is an Asst. professor at the Middle East Technical University’s Department of Sociology. Markus Dressler is professor of Modern Turkish Studies at Leipzig University. Cemil Boyraz is Assoc. Professor in the Department of International Relations at İstanbul Bilgi University.
